Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
in Bristol
and Bath - UK. |
SFBT
is modern. It is forward focused, which means that although it takes
into account your past history and deals with any associated
traumas, it is primarily focused on creating a positive present and
future. We focus on solutions to problems rather than the problems
themselves. When we create well-being for ourselves in the present,
the past has much less bearing on our present day lives, and we
retain much greater control of our lives generally. The emphasis
here is that positive thinking and positive perception are of
paramount importance in creating well-being. Solution focused
therapy provides real and practical tools to truly begin to focus in
this way.
Solution
based therapy is very empowering because it delivers practical
understanding to you, the client. When the causal link between
stress and illness (symptoms) is clearly understood, then it becomes
much clearer as to how and why an illness was created and why it is
maintained in the present. If the "way in" is understood,
then the "way out" is much easier to recognise!
In
today's world it can be difficult to avoid stress, but we can reduce
it greatly by understanding the ways in which we actually create and
maintain stress and anxiety in our lives. We can also find new ways
of seeing and dealing with situations so that they become much less
stressful. This is where hypnotherapy excels, since it communicates
these new perspectives directly to the subconscious mind which is
often where the root of a difficulty can be found. When stress
levels return to normal, our subconscious minds will decide that the
danger has passed, that it is therefore safe to engage with life
again, and we return to good health.
Alongside
traditional hypnosis, we also borrow many techniques from the NLP (Neuro-Linguistic
Programming) field of psychology. NLP is principally a set of
techniques and observations about how people process information
about life and themselves. It is a highly effective model which
itself borrows understandings from the best of all fields of
psychology (including hypnotherapy which is central to NLP) and
blends them into practical exercises and practices which can be used
to change the way a persons brain/mind processes information. In
other words, as the name suggests, it is used to re-programme the
brain/mind, thus ensuring that the "pictures" or
"states" that your brain/mind automatically generates when
considering a given stimuli become positive as opposed to the
negative states which will invariably be creating anxiety and a
sense of powerlessness in a persons life. These techniques are
modern, quick, un-invasive, and extremely effective when applied
within the therapeutic context. We also draw from other modern
therapeutic understanding, making good use of the principles
underlying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which permeates
everything we do in one way or another...namely that we keep it
positive!
This
therapy is about re-focusing. It's about reducing stress. It's about
helping you to re-connect with your own power and resources. It's
about clearing the emotional burdens of the past. It's about helping
you to be able to say "Yes!" to life, and "No"
to negativity. It's about helping you to be able to say "I
can...!" in life. It's about helping you to achieve the
things that you want to achieve. When you are doing what you want to
do then you feel good about life.
Treatment
using solution focused therapy will usually range from around 3-10
sessions depending on the nature and seriousness of your complaint.
It forms the main body of the majority of therapy and is a powerful
and effective therapy which offers real relief for depression,
anxiety, panic, anger, grief, sexual difficulties, compulsive
behaviours, phobias, insomnia, IBS, and many more conditions.
Hypnotherapy is extremely flexible and can be tailored to your
individual needs. If your condition is not noted, please contact
me to see if it is treatable using hypnotherapy.
