What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the art and science of communicating new ideas to the subconscious mind with the aid of hypnosis and modern psychotherapeutic techniques to promote healing at many levels. In practice we specifically incorporate techniques from other related therapeutic fields including CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Psychotherapy, and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).

What can you use it for?

It is a powerful and effective treatment for relieving anger, stress, depression and anxiety, as well as all related symptoms. Symptoms include IBS, phobias/fears, compulsive behaviour, panic, disempowerment, migraine, insomnia, loss of confidence, sexual difficulties…..the list goes on. It is also excellent in enhancing performance, breaking addictions, and helping people to achieve their goals.

How does it work?

It works at two levels. Consciously, control is restored by understanding how stress is unknowingly caused and maintained in everyday life, and why stress produces the symptoms that it does. Subconsciously, hypnotherapy works by locating and re-writing those subconscious beliefs which are unnecessarily limiting or symptom producing.

Is it safe?

Hypnotherapy is a scientifically respected and mainstream method of therapy. In the hands of a properly trained therapist, hypnosis is extremely safe.

Hypnosis is a natural state of focus and relaxation. You retain 100% control and awareness throughout. The unconscious mind is very protective and will always reject any unacceptable hypnotic suggestions. Nobody ever does or says anything they don't want to and you don't go to "sleep". Almost without exception most people find the state extremely pleasant and relaxing.

How long does it take?

Simple problems such as habit breaking, exam nerves, and ego strengthening can be addressed in one to three sessions. Simple phobias (i.e. not aggravated by generally high anxiety levels) can be tackled in a three session programme. More serious difficulties will take a little longer. Every case is unique, but six to ten sessions is usually an effective and thorough programme for most people with more serious difficulties. I will always aim to get you to where you want to be in the shortest amount of time possible.

How much does it cost?

I offer a free initial telephone consultation (20 minutes). This provides you with an opportunity to speak to me and to discuss your problem in detail with no obligation to continue treatment. This ensures that you are comfortable working with me and is designed to give you a good understanding of the therapy and how it can help you.

Further to the initial telephone consultation our first session lasts 80-90 minutes (cost £55) and includes some therapeutic work. Subsequent sessions last one hour each and cost £55 per session. A relaxation CD and supporting reading materials are provided as part of the treatment plan for use between sessions.

Anti-Smoking clinics last 2 hours and cost £110.

Please note that appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are subject to a fee.

Do I need an initial consultation for my problem?

You will not need a consultation for anti-smoking therapy. You are welcome of course to telephone or email to discuss prior to booking if you have any questions. For all other problems an initial telephone consultation is recommended.

Where am I based?

I work from comfortable consulting rooms at the Chiron Centre for Natural Health which is a lovely therapy centre located in Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol (UK). Click here for more details. My Central Bath practice is in James St West and is open on Tuesdays.
